Kay McCrann

Artist working alongside slugs to embody movement using blindfold

Kay McCrann is an artist-researcher-practitioner based on the Isle of Wight, investigating how  contemporary embodied drawing and mark-making can be used within multispecies or common  worlds research and environmental education.

Kay’s visual practice revolves around the relationships we have with small invertebrate animals,  commonly known as minibeasts, living alongside us in our houses and gardens. Kay uses  embodied drawing practices to question the status quo of these minibeast relationships, and particularly how we learn about them as children.

In 2023, Kay completed her practice-based PhD ‘Minibeasts, Mark-making and Me: contemporary embodied drawing approaches to multispecies worlds’ at Portsmouth University. Since then Kay has been working in the community to  investigate the best approach to improving our relationships with these small animals in the future  through embodied action and education.
