Jessica is a multimedia artist who specialises in video, performance, creative writing and collaging. She works with video projections, video screens, paper mâché and drawing and painting on paper. Her videoartworks are collages of moving images: including her own footage, playful performances in costume, footage of hand-crafted props, animations (both in stop-motion and in Adobe Photoshop), stockfootage and AI image and video experiments.
Jessica scripts narratives and poems about contemporary subjects through finding archival material related to these subjects and combining this research with classical mythological motifs, folklore and Shakespearean influences. This collaging methodology has allowed for the assemblage of poetic parallels between unlikely subjects – such as the island in Shakespeare’s The Tempest and a utopian vision of earth’s recovery from the climate crisis. Her DIY approach to storytelling humorously critiques the rise of AI technology, capitalism and the patriarchy.
