Gen Doy lives in London. Her work has been broadcast on radio, installed in galleries, included in publications, and performed indoors and outdoors. She is the recipient of two bursaries from a-n the artists’ information company. She worked for many years as a historian and theorist of visual culture, publishing many books. Gen writes:
Gen use various media in her work: sound and live performance, images, written and spoken texts, in order to construct narratives that are suggestive, evocative and open to creative interpretation. She is interested in ways in which the historical can collide and interact with the contemporary. Giving voice to, and making visible, people ignored or marginalised is important to me, as is the creation of a political artistic practice. Starting from ideas and concepts, questions and politics, Gen enjoys researching historical and contemporary sources and selecting appropriate media to realise each project.
